Apostrophes[edit]

Hi, I noticed your edit to Aharonov-Bohm Effect. Please note that you only use the apostrophe for the contraction "it's" ("it's a nice day") and not for the possessive "its" ("to each its own"). —Steven G. Johnson 17:24, Nov 22, 2004 (UTC)

Oops! I'll pay more attention next time. Thanks. Helixblue 18:18, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

==Thought quote fit following indecisive definitions== I am fascinated by the supreme definitions of dictionaries. I am suspicious of their finality. Are not cults and mass movements only different in numbers? Cults 23 Nov 04

I agree the quote fit somewhat, but I think it would be much better if it was placed in a quotes section with attribution, rather than thrown into the middle of a page. Helixblue 14:25, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Pashtun[edit]

Thought you might want to look in again on Pashtun. You made an edit just downstream of what I strongly believe to be anonymous vandalism. I did my best to revert the vandalism, then restore your edit, but I might not have gotten it right, you should verify. -- Jmabel | Talk 21:29, Nov 23, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks.

Strange Apostrophes[edit]

I've noticed you've started editing entries and inserting strange apostrophes and double quotes into them. I think because you are not using the HTML entity codes for them, that they will not show up in web browsers other than Internet Explorer for Windows. At least, your apostrophes show up as question marks with Safari or FireFox.

One sample entry is Luisa Todi. Thanks. Helixblue 15:31, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I must disavow all blame here I fear. For starters I'm using Opera under unix, so the "smart quotes" aren't by mine. What's happening is that novice users are either copy-and-pasting or directly inserting directional quote marks into the text they're typing. The English wikipedia is strictly ISO-8859-1 (which doesn't have any directional quote marks) however. When I edit the page, before sending the page back to wikipedia when I hit submit my browser validates that it is in fact valid ISO-8859-1 as the server requires. Microsoft uses a proprietary codepage a lot like ISO-8859-1 in these situations, which has things like smart quotes and —'s in the unused part of ISO-8859-1 (positions 128-160). This is however not valid ISO-8859-1. Hope that clarifies things. --fvw* 15:40, 2004 Nov 27 (UTC)

Reverting Images[edit]

Thanks for the help. I was trying many times with both the del and rev links to revert to the black and white appropriate version of the Osama Bin Laden image, unfortunately I was unsuccessful for reasons I don't understand, and it seemed each of my reverts was just resizeing the inappropriate image to the proportions of the original image. I'm quite confused at the moment, and apologize for any appearance of me trying to revert back to the inappropriate image. --Flockmeal 04:57, Nov 28, 2004 (UTC)

No problem. I thought something funny was going on, and didn't realize you noticed it as well. I just saved the newest respectable one I could find and re-uploaded it. Thanks for your help. Helixblue 04:58, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)

funny rv lines[edit]

Thanks for your humorous rv with the Sex entry (diff). I'm not quite sure why, but it really made my day. -- Helixblue 21:41, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Glad to hear it, you've got to do something to take the monotony out of RC patrol. On a slightly unrelated note, I don't want to get all campaign-ey here, but if you appreciate my work could you consider voting on my request for adminship? No pressure, I won't be offended if you don't (or even vote against me. You'd be in some wonderful company). --fvw* 21:46, 2004 Nov 29 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
