This page seems to be less than neutral LegCircus 18:41, Oct 6, 2004 (UTC)

This page is quite biased towards the open-source community. I don't have time to paraphrase, but maybe it should have some info from his official bio:

What's his "official bio?" Please see my edits to this article. I worked at Data General with Mudie, and the biography on Microsoft's Website is, to put it politely (which I do in the article) "inflated." So, before we trust any bio, let's get the facts. If any of the claims I have made are disputed, I know all of the players who will help to set the record straight. I would welcome Mudie's own edits to make his bio more neutral. August 2000, President Clinton named Mundie to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, which advises White House staff on issues affecting the security of the nations telecommunications infrastructure. In April 2002, Mundie joined the Task Force on National Security in the Information Age to help develop a strategy for using new technologies and information to address new security challenges. Since February 2002, Mundie has served on the Council on Foreign Relations Inc., a nonpartisan membership organization, research center and publisher dedicated to increasing Americas understanding of the world and contributing ideas to U.S. foreign policy. --206.191.19.90 19:18, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

moved here from the article[edit]

An anonymous editor edited the article to add this:

In January, 2006, an entry was made to this article because the external link below, Mundie biography at Microsoft, gave a biography of Mundie that inflated his resume by his taking credit for developing the first Disk Operating System at Data General and for directing the advanced development facility for Data General at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. In June, 2006, because of the information posted on Wikipedia regarding Mundie's resume, his biography was updated to reflect more accurate information. The resume was updated by an employee working for Mundie, and Mundie did not contact the author of the entry directly to discuss these changes or explain the original misstatements.

It doesn't belong in the article as it is definitely not encyclopedic in tone, but it might still be useful for other editors as reference. Warrens 20:45, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did not intend to make this entry anonymous, and I am the author of the entry. I agree that putting it on the talk page for others to read is both useful and more appropriate. JJ 19:52, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that his current Microsoft bio makes no such claims:
Mundie started his career in 1970, working on operating-system development for the Data General NOVA at Systems Equipment Corporation (SEC) while still studying at the Georgia Tech. SEC was subsequently acquired by Data General Corp., where Mundie went on to develop the INFOS data-management system. In 1977 Mundie moved to Data General's advanced development facility in Research Triangle Park, N.C., ultimately becoming its director. In 1982, Mundie was one of three co-founders of Alliant Computer Systems Corp., which developed vector-parallel mini-supercomputers. He held a variety of positions at Alliant before becoming CEO. The company shut down in 1992.[1]

Stubbed[edit]

I removed most of the "biographical" information in this article. WP is not a vehicle for expressing the outrage of a small group of people about the general direction a Microsoft exec happened to fart at five years ago. I understand the use of the term "viral" in the same sentence as "GPL" is right up there with stuffing kittens in small glass bottles, but this "biography" needs to be that; otherwise please move the article to "Evil things Craig Mundie said" or create a special category called "Things that give Slashbots ulcers" and attach it to that.

Oh, and for all the outrage and mention of Stallman popping a coronary there were no references at all, which is surprising at best. It would be useless to attach POV and FACT tags to everything. --klaus

That may have been justified, but it is not a minor edit. Superm401 - Talk 04:06, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Astroturfing on this article will no longer be tolerated[edit]

Apparently Craig Mundie has a couple of fans that won't let anything they don't like on the page about him. This has been noticed by a number of wikipedia users and it is really despicable what is going on here. The main problem with this article is that these users in their PR campaign are insisting that only information from Mundie's Microsoft biography is worthy of inclusion in this article. So now we are trusting a corporation's whitewashed view of its top executives over mainstream media sources? That isn't even consistent with wikipedia policies.

Statements Against Internet Anonymity and Advocating Licensing Internet Use

This is a matter of public record now. He's said what he thinks, it's been published, and he's given interviews to clarify his statements. Why should this be secretly deleted when Mundie has openly said these things at UN meetings and to major news outlets? It's in the Washington Post for crying out loud! The AP source that was deleted for the laughable non-reason of "removed one citation..." could not be more clear: "He also called for a "driver's license" for internet users." That is a fact. That's what he said at the UN. That's what the AP said he said. He has confirmed that's what he said to the Washington Post. End of discussion.

I find it strange that those of you on both sides of this issue AGREE that his statements against privacy and in favor of licensing people before they can get on the internet are bad, the only difference is one group is trying to conceal it and the other group is trying to make it known.

Delete this and watch the interest in your shady activities grow. --Victoria h (talk) 00:25, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
