WikiProject iconThis template is within the scope of WikiProject Middle-earth, which aims to build an encyclopedic guide to J. R. R. Tolkien, his legendarium, and related topics. Please visit the project talk page for suggestions and ideas on how you can improve this and other articles.
TemplateThis template does not require a rating on Wikipedia's content assessment scale.
Note: Though it states in the Guide to writing better articles that generally fictional articles should be written in present tense, all Tolkien legendarium-related articles that cover in-universe material before the current action must be written in past tense. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Middle-earth/Standards for more information about this and other article standards.

I have a feeling many of the pages that are marked with this template are in fact not stubs, as many of them are very minor topics with only a handful of mentions throughout Tolkien's work, but I haven't read The History of Middle-earth yet so I'm not positive. Someone with more knowledge should check them out. siroχo 12:07, Aug 30, 2004 (UTC)

Another thing for someone with more knowledge to check out: is it just me, or do some of these stubs read suspiciously like direct quotations from the Encyclopedia of Arda? --Paul A 05:02, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I wouldn't be at all surprised. -Aranel ("Sarah") 02:09, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Tengwar image[edit]

Now that most of the stub messages have images attached, I made a little tengwar icon that says "Arda" in the Quenya mode. Let me know if you have any problems with it. (Or if, hey, you want me to write anything else.) -Aranel ("Sarah") 02:09, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Why was the image changed? Is the Ring really an appropriate image? (Most Tolkien-stubs are not Lord of the Rings-related.) And can that really be a public domain image? -Aranel ("Sarah") 02:05, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Formatting[edit]

If the image isn't inside the table, the formatting begins to look very peculiar if the space is small enough that the text doesn't display on one line (in Internet Explorer, at least—I haven't tried it in Mozilla yet). If you can come up with something else that works, please do. -Aranel ("Sarah") 04:44, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)

The image used[edit]

The image in itself is good enough (I did however comment it in the commons), but wouldn't it be better to use Tolkien's monogram ([1])? Jon Harald Søby 12:49, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

What's the legal status of that image? (I agree, it's great, and instantly recognizable by people who known Tolkien.) I would have added it myself, but I wasn't sure of this. -Aranel ("Sarah") 23:40, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)
The monogram is a registered trademark of the Tolkien estate. As such I don't think we could use it. --CBD 18:19, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
