This is not encyclopedic--when we remove the opinion about its quality(NPOV), we're left with nothing but that it's a poem by Smith. This needs substance, or to be deleted.Vicki Rosenzweig 00:16 12 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Could a note be added about the poem's influence on the Morrissey song 'Lifeguard Sleeping, Girl Drowning'? Or would it be more appropriate to add a note to the song's page about this poem? Ezy Rider (talk) 15:59, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- The atricle itself is about a notable poem, but the majority of the text is not notable. Perhaps we should consider removing the majority of the references by musical bands and whatnot, as they have little to do with the poem but attempt to derive notability from it.Mrathel (talk) 21:49, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

- I am going to remove the Musical References section as none of the information directly relates to the poem itself and is more or less connective trivia. I am sorry if this steps on any toes, but the bulk of an article about a poem needs to focus on the poem, not every single time it is used as a title for a song. If any of the references can be considered as an adaptation of the same poem, they might go into a section of the poem's influence on literature and art, but that would have to include the poem itself, not a single line of a different piece of work. The poem[edit]
It is meaningless to discuss this work here without reproducing it in full, since it is discussed in such detail. I contend that this fully complies with Wikipedia's fair-use policy in that it does not in any way compromise the rights of the copyright holder to profit from this usage, in that any commercial exploitation of this poem will inevitably be accompanied by other, lesser-known works by Stevie Smith, and that is to the benefit of her estate as far as royalties are concerned. In that sense, we do not trespass upon those ancillary rights. I go further, and say that unless we reproduce this poem here, the reader has no internal frame of reference from which the article as a whole can be read or assessed. The Drawing[edit]
re: "The image that Smith attached to the poem shows the form of a girl from the waist up with her wet hair hanging over her face." -- the only images i've seen associated with this poem are a drawing of a girl (not "the form of a girl") from the neck (not the waist) up -- and tho the hair is a little unkempt i wouldn't have guessed it was "wet" -- can anyone confirm, or throw light? -- (unfortunately the link claiming to show the pic requires RealPlayer, no longer the media player of choice) -- Oniscoid (talk) 15:25, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Trivia[edit]
I've removed a lot of unnecessary stuff from the final section, which had again become a repository for trivial mentions as highlighted in the above comments from February 2009. I've kept a couple of entries which appear to directly relate to the poem, but tagged them as unsourced.
