Actually[edit]

"The skunk ape is a type of cryptid that is often considered a type of bigfoot, but is actually a pongid, or great ape. They are often reported to be similar to an orangutan or a gorilla. They are also known as Napes." How can something "actually" be said about a cryptid?

Orangutans[edit]

while i do not deny gorillas are the least intelligent great ape, what about chimps or bonobos?

That's an orangutan. Compare the photo. Even without having seen a picture of an orangutan in a long time, I could pretty easily pick it out.

Due to a hypothesis the Yeti and the Bigfoot are modern derivates of the suppossedly extinct Gigantopithecus ape. Now it is known that Gigantopithecus' closest relative is the Orangotan, so we may suggest that these two genuses of apes are morphologically similar due to their relationship. If the photographed creature resembles an orangutan with no rational explanation why an orangutan should be found in the region, that could count as a (propably insignificant) evidence for the Gigantopithecus-Sasquatch theory. Reverted vandalism[edit]

The skunk ape is no longer a myth. He has been caught and caged by three younge men in eastern Idaho. The MPC manged to subdue the raging beast with bare hands and hand made weaponds. This beast will be tamed and trained to perform everyday tasks. ex. mowing the lawn, washing cars, and moving large boxes.

Alleged $1M Bounty[edit]

I've heard that this is in effect because some rich shits had seen it. IF that was "you or I" that had seen and reported it, they'd say "We're full of shit!". Instead, some rich shits had seen one, and want it taken down. To collect, it HAS to be DEAD. Of course, that had taken place in Florida. State of the article[edit]

This article is very scrappy. Lots of bits chucked in any old where, unsupported assertions, POVs, OR etc. It needs a lot of work to get up to scratch (if you will). Totnesmartin 14:02, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do I dare point out (albeit rather pedantically) that methane actually doesn't smell of anything at all, so the skunk ape couldn't smell of methane.... How big?[edit]

The Legend of the Skunk Ape According to this, the Skunk ape is 7 ft. and over 300 pounds. I don't know the reliability of this info, but this gives you an idea of the size.--Onceonthisisland 12:36, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When dealing with urban myth our task is to accurately report on the myth. If the myth holds that the creature is 7ft tall and weights 300lb, then that is what we should report. Whether the creature actually exists is another matter, which is why this is a cryptozoology entry and not a zoology entry. - perfectblue 10:21, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Myakka photographs[edit]

How can police have gone to the house of the sender of the letter and photo's, if that sender was, as claimed, anonymous?

Capitalisation[edit]
