Ownership[edit]

Sounds like it's owned by the US (Federal) Govt. which is untrue.

Concerning the first line in the article about it being the *only* government-owned amusement park in the country, see [[1]] Seems more like it's the only park that the person who wrote the article new of, since Bay Beach has been operated by decades by the city of Green Bay. As per the statement in the article, local residents concerned about what a County report described as "unsavory crowds" induced the Westchester County Park Association to purchase two existing theme parks, Rye Beach and Paradise Park, and planned a local-government-sponsored amusement park in their stead. --Amit 17:18, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infamous deaths[edit]

Someone should probably work in the story from last year where a young visitor was thrown from the "Brain Scrambler" ride and was killed. I've heard that wasn't the first time somebody died at Playland, but that could just be a legend associated with the perceived "ricketedyness" of the Dragon Coaster.

This section needs more sourcing. Parts of it are also wrong. The "teenage boy" who choked on his gum was an 8yr old girl. Also I doubt only two deaths happened btwn 1920 and 1990.--Nick 05:38, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is a message for 130.156.29.112: you must provide a reputable, unbiased, 3rd-party source that talks about the critics refering to Playland with that nickname. Derby Racer[edit]

The discussion of the Derby Racer seems to be inaccurate. It states that the horses move backward and forward as well as up and down. Unfortunately, I visited the park a couple weeks ago and can report that they have been fixed in place (which was also the sad fate of the Blackpool derby racer). Since the slots that they would have moved in have been boarded up, this appears to be a permanent state of affairs. Name of the article[edit]

I never hear simply the word Playland when people in my area refer to the amusement park. I always hear the term Rye Playland. As a resident of Westchester County, I think that the common name of the play is Rye Playland, and as such, the article should be renamed to Rye Playland.PointsofNoReturn (talk) 18:06, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Playland (New York) → Rye Playland – Title should be qualified using the city rather than the state, for consistency with Playland (Vancouver) and Playland (San Francisco), and to avoid confusion with New York City. Oppose - I see little evidence that "Rye Playland" is even approaching a usual or common name for this. All sources I can see just say "Playland". NATURALDIS is good for borderline cases, but this isn't a borderline case. The other Playlands are disambiguated by city rather than state, so for consistency we'd need to move this article to Playland (Rye) or Playland (Rye, New York).
