Venice of West London ??[edit]

I'm not convinced about the statement.... ". Uxbridge is colloquially known as the 'Venice of West London' due to the profusion of canals in the town." ... which features prominently in the introduction. Certainly, I have never heard this phrase used on the streets of Uxbridge. It seems to only be mentioned, "see Google", in Wikipedia and other derivatives. Also, there is but a single canal, the Grand Union, which passes west of Uxbridge - this is hardly a "profusion". I would like to delete this sentence. This is absolutely ridiculous. It's commonly called the Venice of West London. Having lived here for 35 years, I beg to differ! Also, it's mentioned quite widely on the web - I suggest that you don't solely rely on Google. I've put it back in - please leave it there. It has two solid references as required. While it's probably true that some people refer to it by that name, neither of the current sources provided meet the guideline on reliable sources. User comments on a blog and a photo can't be considered a solid basis for encyclopedic content. I tried looking for more reliable sources, but only got another blog. Since verifiability is a core policy here, we can't include the content without something better. Sorry. Alzarian16 (talk) 22:07, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Large town?[edit]

"Uxbridge /ˈʌksbrɪdʒ/ is a large town in west London"

In the infobox, the population is given as 26027. This is large? Loughborough is just over twice this figure and people call it a small town. Or is it "large" in land area as opposed to population? — Smjg (talk) 13:12, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Large by London standards. There are only a limited number of 'metropolitan centres' in London of which Uxbridge is one.^[1] Population figures for London areas are highly suspect as they are only produced for electoral wards. MRSC (talk) 07:18, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hospitals?[edit]

The article lacks a section on health facilities or mention of any hospitals in its past, leaving the reader with a question as to whether Uxbridge contains any hospitals. There was an Uxbridge Isolation Hospital in 1948 where Czech athlete Eliska Misakova who was to take part in that year's London Olympics died after falling ill with polio on arrival in London.
