Cleanup of article[edit]

Well, since no-one has really made any major effort to clean this article up, I'll be working on it over the next few weeks. I've started by restructuring the article for an encyclopedic approach to the topic rather than an in-universe perspective. This means development and cultural impact sections. Now, I don't own Raising the Bar, but I'm hoping it might contain some key information on the development of the Vortigaunt. If that is true, I'd appreciate it if someone could help include that in the character design section, or at least give me the jist of it here. Please note that the old version of the article exists in a very similar state already on Combine OverWiki, consequently that has been added to the external links. Lastly, Uriah's gone. He does not belong in this article. What really needs to be done is the creation of a Characters of Half-Life article, where he and all the other characters who do not exhibit independent notability (which is most of them) can be put for the benefit of collective notability. The practice is not abnormal and is the best way to approach the subject, spinning out character articles if enough independent notability can be given - see Characters of Final Fantasy VIII, Characters of StarCraft, Characters of Halo, Characters of Kingdom Hearts to name a few of the FA and GA articles on similar subjects. -- Sabre (talk) 11:55, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Native to Xen?[edit]

This article claims that Vortigaunts are native to Xen but is there proof of that? Just beacuse they're first off-world encounter was on Xen doesn't mean that it's their homeworld. I mean they are on earth now too, even though it's not their home! Same goes for antlions, there are plenty of antlions on earth now, yet none of them were sighten on Xen and a Vortigaunt in EP2 claimed that Vortigaunts mended to the Antlions on their homeworld.

So, the suggestion that they might be native to Xen is specualtion and should be replaced!--Denmon0728 (talk) 10:08, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its a fairly logical assumption that Xen is their homeworld due to the fact that's where they're seen to teleport from in HL1. I've yet to see anything that suggests otherwise. However, I've removed the occurances where Xen is explictly stated to be their homeworld, as it can still be taken as speculation. -- Sabre (talk) 15:38, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Explicit mention in HL1[edit]

is there evidence of an explicit mention of the word "vortigaunt" in HL1? I doubt it.

No, there is no explicit mention of Vortigaunts in Half-Life. However, its made perfectly clear by Valve that they are the same creatures, so the same word should be used to describe them throughout. Juggling an unofficial fan name from when there was no name and the official one introduced in HL2 is not good for clarity, and Wikipedia articles are here for readers who have not and may never go near the subject in hand - ie play Half-Life. -- Sabre (talk) 09:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spoilers[edit]

"In Episode One, Vortigaunts use unexplained powers to rescue Alyx Vance..." Thanks for ruining that for me. can we remove this part or give a spoiler warning?

Sorry, but no. Wikipedia is not censored, and spoilers are at your own risk. Information that may be spoilers for some people is often necessary for comprehensiveness. If you don't want spoilers on a subject, don't read an article's synopsis, story or appearance section. -- Sabre (talk) 09:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject videogame assessment[edit]

I've upped the rating to B, which allows for some gaps in coverage. In this case there is only the obvious one, creation, which is already flagged. Having read through the entire article the only thing I can suggest is that the lead is missing a very brief mention of how the character was received, and obviously the creation information. If you can find some development info then this should fly through GA. Someoneanother 16:38, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Potential merge[edit]

HL expansions[edit]

To my knowledge, HL hast only two expansions, being opposing force and blue shift. What is the third? KhlavKhalash (talk) 18:41, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
