Titles[edit]

There really needs to be a uniform system for titling these things. Tokyo's wards are currently titled with nothing more than the ward name (e.g. Chuo), while the ward links under other cities often have wacky romanizations (e.g. "Chuuou-ku, Oosaka"). Can we agree on something so that these can all get written up?

Some possibilities:

"Chuo, Tokyo"
"Chuo Ward, Tokyo"
"Chuo (Tokyo)"
"Chuo-ku, Tokyo"

And how about wards like Urawa and Omiya, which used to be cities? Do they get suffixes?

As it stands now...

All of Tokyo wards are Ward, Tokyo

The two extant Saitama wards are Ward, Saitama

Most of the others are Ward-ku, Prefecture with a few Ward, Prefectures as well

Yes standardize. IMO, preferably not "Place (City)" and preferably not "Place Ward, City" since those are the least common. I am leaning towards "Place, Prefecture", but the technical best is probably "Place-ku, Prefecture".

Side note: the format for all prefecture article names in the text should always be "City (Kanji; -ku)" -- EmperorBMA|話す 14:20, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I think that Ward, City and Ward-ku, City are the two best options. Wards are components of cities, not prefectures. -- Sekicho 14:33, Aug 5, 2004 (UTC)

I stand corrected. The odd thing is that most cities that have wards are both prefectural captial and have the same name as the prefecture... rather ironic :P -- EmperorBMA|話す 15:51, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Actually, it's evenly split.

Same: Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Saitama, Chiba, Hiroshima

Different: Kobe, Hyogo; Nagoya, Aichi; Sapporo, Hokkaido; Kitakyushu, Fukuoka; Kawasaki, Kanagawa; Yokohama, Kanagawa; Sendai, Miyagi

As written in the MoS for Japan-related articles, I'm going to change as many of the links as I can to make them more uniform. It will take a while because there's already so many redirects and random naming conventions but it will make it a lot easier to change again in the future if it's done now.
