Wondering if I am related[edit]

I am a 4th great-grandson of Bridget Josephine Dowling, sister of Richard William Dowling, of Tuam Co. Ireland. Given that Richard's middle name is William, the same as Bridget Dowling Hitler's father, I am wondering if I might actually be related to her. However, Dowling, or O'Dowling, is not that uncommon a name in Tuam Co. --Bill W. Smith, Jr. 17:48, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am presuming you are talking about Tuam, Galway. A few things about Irish genealogy if you are new to this. Dowling is a relatively common surname, as are the forenames you mention. The Brigid Dowling was supposedly from Dublin, Kilnamanagh. People did not move around so much, as they do today. Irish genealogical records are poor, lack of censuses, and poor parish records (especially in the West of Ireland) all probably add up to two things. i) It's unlikely you are related. ii) even if you are, it would be virtually impossible to prove. Sorry to be a bit negative, but from bitter experience I know how hard Irish family trees are, and beware of handing over money, especially to internet sites. Even the Kennedy's with all their money couldn't get back beyond 1820. A couple of links that may help

If you're really interested in pursuing this, obtain her birth cert from Dublin. Then her parent's marriage cert, and take it from there. These should be relatively inexpensive to obtain. Good Luck! RodCrosby (talk) 21:33, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

People from Liverpool:Category[edit]

I was unsure on this category while I am in favour of promoting links with Liverpool for 'people' I was doubtful Bridget Dowling would be allowable as person was neither born nor raised in Liverpool. However I wish not to pursue a debate but to highlight this if others wish to debate the category relevance. Dmcm2008 (talk) 20:44, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We also know that Adolf wanted to dodge conscription, and that he legged it to Liverpool....sort of. --83.108.28.69 (talk) 00:21, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
