Untitled[edit]

I added some information to the basic demographic data. I'll try to add more later and bring it up to city standards if possible, and see if there are any useable images to add. I'd like to put up a South Arkansas Community College article.

I don't know all that international pronunciation markup stuff, but I want to explain that "El Dorado" is pronounced to rhyme with "tornado". If you know how to do it, feel free. --66.76.194.80 17:32, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i know i hate it when people introduce me and say i live in "el doRAHdo and stuff"

if you live in el dorado say "i"

i - think something happened to the "History" section. i don't want to erase the lynching,a vile act that I actually am glad, though disgusted, to have just learned here, and to be honest i think the town's mostly a shithole. there are not too many people who would disagree with that. but i still feel weird that the only thing mentioned under the town's "History" is a single racially-charged murder. i haven't done any editing in a long time and frankly don't have the energy to do it right, but it'd still be cool if someone could expand on el dorado's history. also yes it is indeed pronounced to rhyme with "tornado". no clue why but it just is.

I was born in El Dorado and the pronunciation is much like how most people say "Los Angeles", very few people use the Spanish pronunciation. The locals in a town in Southern California named "San Pedro" pronounce it San-PEE-dro and not San-PAY-dro, as most outsiders would, There's a saying "When in Rome...". El Dorado means "The Golden" in Spanish. It is sad that the city has declined so since I left in 1978, losing 40% of its population. As far as the part here that suggests the Rialto theater is believed to be haunted, this is surely a joke. It may be because I used to work there and a friend and I once played "ghosts" and haunted some teens there one night. We scared the bejezus out of them and never told anyone. I spent the night in that theater alone many times and can assure you that it was not haunted. 24.144.55.215 (talk) 03:57, 26 July 2021 (UTC)Randy H.[reply]

External link to add[edit]

Recommend adding a link to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas History & Culture entry on El Dorado. The Encyclopedia of Arkansas is a project of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies at the Central Arkansas Library System, and the entry, which has lots of good suggestions for further research, was written by a South Arkansas Community College professor. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Encycloar (talkcontribs).

I have replaced it. My apologies. -WarthogDemon 20:35, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
