Sittner Hall and Omicron Pi Sigma[edit]

These two dorms/societies had their own pages until a VfD was put forward and the agreement to merge the pages was made. What is shown now under these two items in Student Life is a direct copy of the content on these pages - minus some wikilinks and URLs. If you would like to review the talk pages of these articles - see Talk:Sittner Hall and Talk:Omicron Pi Sigma. Harro5 22:17, May 21, 2005 (UTC)

Name change[edit]

As per http://www.wwc.edu/350.0.html?&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=309&tx_ttnews[backPid]=28&cHash=8645ba1c8b when and how will this article go about changing its name? -Fermion 09:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The name change is scheduled to take place on September 1, 2007, so I think it would be appropriate to change the name of the article then. Willy Logan 22:44, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:WWC logo.gif[edit]

Image:WWC logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Disambigution[edit]

Should there be a disambigution page to Walla Walla Community College, since "Walla Walla College" links to this page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.148.220.179 (talk) 06:40, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of former office holders[edit]

On reading the history log of the article, I have noticed that many of the lists of former office holders (OPS officers, Collegian editors, etc.) have been removed by ElKevbo for being "neither notable nor sourced." I can see his point about those lists not being sourced. I have no online source for the list that I added to, the list of former Collegian editors. All I have is my memory and the bound Collegian archives I have in front of me.

However, I am wondering about the notable part. I think it is worthwhile to have a list of the former presidents of WWU. However, are there other offices that should also be recorded? Like VPs for Academic Administration?

Or perhaps student offices. Past ASWWU presidents? OPS/AGA/Village Singles/Village Married presidents? Collegian/Mountain Ash/Mask editors?

While I don't think Wikipedia is the place to keep a record of all assistant RAs for Sittner 2nd South, I think there is room for keeping more historical data about past office holders.

But, I welcome the discussion.

I think the only office the the university that would be notable enough to list all of the previous office holders would be College/University presidents. This article is seriously wanting as it is, such lists would not improve the article and in fact detract from it. It would be a better use of one's time to add to any section of the article other than "student life" rather than add lists. I doubt readers who browse to this page to find out about WWU really care who was collegian editor five years ago. So presidents perhaps (still a low priority for this article) and absolutely no other offices. Taollan82 (talk) 00:47, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Firing of faculty in 1938[edit]

I have tried twice to find any sourcing for this assertion: "Walla's success however led to further conflicts with the church, when several theology professors were fired in 1938 and the college president was forced to resign." The sources given are WWU homepages, and under 1938 I find nothing about the conflict. This whole article is severely slanted in its reliance on WWU internal sources. If editors want to keep the assertion about 1938, pls copy the source info into talk, here. -- Melchior2006 (talk) 23:03, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Source One: IAMA Online, Dan Shultz, author. Not independent; Dan Shultz was employed by Walla Walla University, although not at the time the article was written (per the source itself).
"In spite of a devastating theological controversy in February 1938 that cost the college a highly respected president and several teachers,18 it had a record enrollment when the next school year started, again the largest in Adventist colleges." iamaonline.com > SDA Music History > Music at Walla Walla University.
  • Source Two: HistoryLink.org, Michael J. Paulus, Jr. Independent; Michael Paulus is the dean of the library at Seattle Pacific University, was working for Whitman College at the time he wrote this article, and per his biography he has never been employed by or educated by Walla Walla University (not that being educated by WWU would compromise independence).
"After obtaining accreditation, tensions between secular and denominational standards persisted. In 1938, denominational leaders and the Walla Walla College Board purged the theology faculty of heterodox thinkers and obtained the resignation of President William Martin Landeen (1891-1982)." https://www.historylink.org/File/9019
  • Both sources make mention of a third source, "Bold Venture: A History of Walla Walla College" by Terrie Dopp Aamodt, although this source appears to not be independent. However, I don't have access to that source, as it is in print only. Because IAMA Online cites Aamodt, pp. 96-107, when it discusses the theological controversy, it is likely that this source has much more information about the incident. Perhaps another editor can provide that information.
I'm not interested in an edit war, I simply wish to point out that the sources did in fact back up the assertion in the article. The wording perhaps could have been better and I am open to that. NorthernFalcon (talk) 23:52, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. I added the name of the president in question, William Martin Landeen. -- Melchior2006 (talk) 11:42, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
