Parliamentary sovereignty[edit]

Thanks for the edit - had that on my to-do list for months. Reads a lot better. Excellent. Davidkinnen 09:23, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your edit in that article, where you changed constitution to constitutional document (which actually links back to constitution). It is true that the Basic Law doesn't have the word constitution in it. The authors saw it as a temporary legal foundation, which was to be replaced when Germany reunified as one country. However, when that happened 16 years ago, the decision was made not to write a new constitution but to keep the Basic Law, with some amendments. For all intents and purposes, the Basic Law is the constitution of Germany. There's nothing in it (today) that distinguishes it in nature from the constitutions of most other democratic nations so why create the linguistic distinction that only serves to confuse the reader? sebmol 06:43, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well I quite agree with you. The main reason I made the edit was to clarify the point. It seems as if there was still confusion about the constitution, but more at an institutional level. I mean you have a Bundesverfassungsgericht, but no Bundesverfassung!! I am a politics student, and in my writing I would be expected to make distinctions like that, so I thought it would be helpful to readers. (RM21 09:55, 11 June 2006 (UTC) )[reply]
I haven't lately checked the article on the Basic Law, but I would presume that might be a good place to discuss sucht more subtle points. Either way, I'm looking forward to your edits, it's always interesting to see how politics articles develop here. sebmol 16:21, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would you like to check the ongoing debate about the Basic Law article?? A guy is trying to convey the sense that the first article is a collective disavowal of discrimination, particularly with regard to the NS-era. However, he has struggled to make points objectively, and you may wish to add to his contribution. (RM21 20:11, 21 June 2006 (UTC)) test[reply]

Time templates[edit]

Hello. Couple of things:

I de-tagged {{CURRENTHOUR}} for speedy deletion, and listed it on Wikipedia:Templates for deletion; we've pretty strict regulations on what kind of content can be deleted without going through a removal process.

In addition, I noticed your edit to {{HOUR}} as a template I transclude on my user page, {{User:Ed Poor/new york time}}, subsequently broke, displaying 'Error: invalid time' instead of the correct hour. I suspect it was due to a bug in Ed Poor's template (I think he passed the wrong arguments to one of the templates called and it ended up working by chance) as opposed to a bug in your rewrite, but I wasn't sure; reverted your edit.

Ed Poor's template calls {{HOUR12}}, which calls {{HOUR}}. I copied over your version of {{HOUR}} to {{User:PseudoSudo/Sandbox/foo}}; also copied over {{HOUR12}} to {{User:PseudoSudo/Sandbox/bar}}, changing its references to {{HOUR}} to point to {{User:PseudoSudo/Sandbox/foo}} instead. Results:

{{User:Ed Poor/eastern hour}} returns '6'
{{HOUR12|{{User:Ed Poor/eastern hour}}}} returns '06'
{{User:PseudoSudo/Sandbox/bar|{{User:Ed Poor/eastern hour}}}} returns 'User:PseudoSudo/Sandbox/bar', should be '06'

I tried to figure out what was breaking, but it was just taking too long; I've never done any extensive work in the template namespace. In any case, if you have spare time, take a crack at it. ~ PseudoSudo 23:11, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration Committee history[edit]

Hello. If you're the same sebmol who was asking for advice on setting up an Arbitration Committee on IRC today, then the following list documents will be instructive: Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Series/January 2006 ArbCom election. There you will find the history of the Arbitration Committee, common criticisms, etc. —Psychonaut 04:04, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am and thank you very much for that. I greatly appreciate it. sebmol 05:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

block for vandalism in German version[edit]

Categories[edit]

I'm guilty of most of your 10 signs of spending too much time here. I was just about to go to bed (it's after 2 AM), so I'll respond more tomorrow. Thanks for offering to help. I'm mostly interested in the German Wikipedia practice relating to CFD criteria, intersection categories, category duplication in parents and children, people by nationality, where you draw the line between POV and NPOV categories,... Most of this relates to my involvement with writing Wikipedia:Category intersection and plans to start tagging categories by type. -- Samuel Wantman 10:09, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project[edit]

My name is Victor Grigas and I'm a Storyteller at the Wikimedia Foundation. We're exploring new ways to explain why Wikipedia is so special and we’ve started a Wikipedia Stories Project, where we’re chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community, especially editors and active contributors in the movement like you. I'll be traveling to Wikimania next month to collect stories for our 2011 Fundraiser. While there I'd love the chance to meet with you and hear your thoughts about Wikipedia. We’ll have a schedule of available times for you to sign up if you’re interested, but right now, we’d like to make the initial contact to gauge your interest. Please let me know by emailing me at vgrigas@wikimedia.org or responding on my talk page.

thank you,

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
