Recommended merge from Logic of Collective Action[edit]

The new article about Olson's book is POV and inferior to the description of the book already contained in Olson's article. I feel Logic of Collective Action should be made a redirect page to Mancur Olson. Alternatively, the book information contained in Mancur Olson could be moved to and supplant the information currently contained in Logic of Collective Action, but I'm not sure that a distinct article for the book is warranted. Subjective, unsourced introduction[edit]

I think "The reigning political theories of his day granted groups an almost primordial status. Some appealed to a natural human instinct for herding, others ascribed the formation of groups that are rooted in kinship to the process of modernization" is a highly subjective opinion on political theory, that is given as if a fact. It is actually lifted from a 1994 book, "Pathologies of Rational Choice Theories" - http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=dvPX1ljtXnwC&pg=PA8&lpg=PA8 - by Green and Shapiro, that says "The reigning political scientists of his day granted groups an almost primordial status. Some appealed, with Gaetano Mosca, to a natural human instinct for herding together and fighting with other herds. Others followed Talcott Parsons and Robert Bales in ascribing the formation of groups that are not rooted in kinship to the process of modernization." First of all, it ought at least to be attributed to those authors, rather than stated as a simple 'fact' about Olson's intellectual environment. And the omission of the 'not' in the entry is a big problem. But I think that one subjective critical view of one of Olson's books doesn't really belong in the introductory paragraph of his entry. Correct Spelling of Olson's Name[edit]

Olson's first name is properly spelled Mançur, not Mancur. This leads to a correct pronunciation with an S sound rather than a C sound. Pronouncing it wrong, in economic circles, makes one sound foolish. Ask me how I know.

I've corrected the spelling in several places, but I've been unable to figure out how to correct the title. This would lead to broken links elsewhere.

Aside from correcting the title, does anyone know how to have links saying both Mançur and Mancur directed to the same page? Rmmiller44 (talk) 04:41, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
