DJ TROOPERS information[edit]

I'm of the opinion that putting random details that were leaked early is not always the best idea until more concrete info is out. For example, the DDR Transplants are not the only extra stage songs in the game. The sentence should be modified to include that there are songs from GF/DM (Mirage Residence) and Pop'n Music (Ubertreffen) on top of those transplants. An alternative is to remove it completely and give a better description of the new extra stage system (Military Splash, etc.) MazriM TaiM (talk) 23:42, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GAMEPLAY Section cleanup[edit]

I hope i'm not the only one that feels this BUT the GAMEPLAY section needs some serious cleanup to be within wiki guidelines. I remember advocating for this a long time ago, and without destroying the info that was typed up, someone graciously transferred all of it the other BEMANIwiki. Specifically what i BELIEVE needs to be deleted: the hi-speed table, 90% of all modifier descriptions. Scoring System should be a concise paragraph. History and Releases should be organized to be more readable. IF there's any more i've missed please feel free to add... Scottind 03:30, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Title standardization[edit]

In an attempt to start cleaning up this article, I'm trying to standardize the spelling, capitalization, and spacing of beatmania IIDX. Konami seems to inconsistently use a space inbetween beatmania and IIDX. Using the IIDX Gateway as a main reference...

  • beatmania IIDX, with a space, is usually used when referring to the series in general.
  • Before 5th style, a space was used in the individual game titles.
  • Starting from 5th style on, the space was removed from the individual game titles.
  • At some point Konami retroactively renamed 1st through 4th style to remove the title space.

Based on this, we could do two things:

  • Use beatmania IIDX when referring to the series, and beatmaniaIIDX in individual game titles.
  • Exclusively use either beatmania IIDX or beatmaniaIIDX in all references to the series and the games.

The first might be considered more accurate, but I'm guessing most readers won't really care. The second option has the advantage of consistency.

As for italics, they should be used for the full titles of games or game series, just like books and book series. When using short-hand or abbreviations, italics are not necessary. For example:

  • beatmania IIDX
  • IIDX
  • beatmania IIDX 9th style
  • 9th style

Non-DX cab[edit]

Konami scrapped the standard cabinet mid-development, but the 'DX' suffix stuck and has remained throughout the series.

This is not true. IIDX 2nd machines exist in non-dx format. The cabinet looks almost identical to a KeyboardHeaven cabinet. The only differences are that the Dual Vertical displays of KH have been swapped with a 16:9, the keyboard controls have been swapped with a IIDX control set (including effectors), and there are two glass enclosed woofers under the IIDX keys. I've seen Non-DX cabinet which have following difference in 6thStyle on PS2(Non-DX cabinet is used in Expert Player's playing demo movie):

  • Start buttons for both player are placed between each side of keyboard.
  • Turntable is smaller than it on DX Cabinet.

Contradiction[edit]

This article contradicts itself. In the section on Hi-speed settings, it says that 1st style through 4th style had Hi-speed 1. In the history section, it says that Hi-speed settings were introduced in 2nd style. Anyone knows which is correct?

Name Correction.[edit]

First off, to Chardish, yes, 2nd was the first to have Hi-Speed.

Anyways, in the section talking about the normal beatmaniaII cabinet, I corrected the name of a player in the 6th Tatsujin. SILV did not make those, it was AGOP who did. They are sometimes mistaken as eachother. -06:50, 5 June 2006 (UTC)CSB

HDTV/Timing Issues[edit]

The part on "propagation delays" in this article may not be the only cause for timing issues on HDTVs. It seems that, as some HDTVs run at non-NTSC frequencies, the video can either get behind or ahead of the music to some degree, as the game was written to run exactly at the US/JAPAN NTSC standard. 5Keys[edit]

The article states "Starting in beatmania IIDX 9th Style AC and beatmania IIDX 10th Style CS, this became a modifier, rather than a separate mode of play"; however, the IIDX 8th Style machine at the arcade I play at definitely has 5Keys as a modifer and not a separate mode. I recently played IIDX 8th style AC and I can confirm that it DOES have 5keys as a modifier, so this does need to be double-checked. I don't know off-hand what AC version had 5Keys as a mod first, but I'll look into it later today. odds are, the Konami Beatmania 2DX AC pages may be of use for this. US AC Release[edit]

With the release of IIDX in the US (finally) coming out - should this be mentioned in the topic? I know that when Happy Sky was supposed to come out, the whole hacking scare stopped Konami from releasing in the US, but since GOLD is on display in the US, should it be discussed? Cabinet Information Cleanup & GOLD information[edit]

This entire section seems a bit disjointed and might require a complete re-write. If you're talking about the cabinet build, please note that there are TWO different builds of IIDX cabinets, the ones from 9th and before, and 10th and after, the differences are noted by the back panel door design. Also for the hardware side, is anyone noting that 9th style through 13th(Distorted) is running on Windows XPe4?

For IIDX GOLD, can someone please verify with me that the new system is running off a modified version of Taito's TypeX arcade board?--Scottind 00:11, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Console History, concerning "Direct Port"[edit]

I know this article is not exactly "gold standard" but i feel that i needed to change info concerning the consumer releases of IIDX in regards to hardware, and why "Direct Port" is not the correct term to use. An example of a direct port, is the arcade version of Ikaruga to Dreamcast, both builds use the same code because both use the same CPU, GPU and sound system, less importantly, they output the same resolution: 640x480p. The PS2 ports of IIDX have all used different middleware to re-scale the system to output at PS2 resolutions, this is especially the case with the newer IIDXs running at 480p, PS2's 3d renderer runs at 512x448 (interlaced) to output 480i. Even addressing the memory constraints of the PS2 when porting IIDX from PC-based architecture. Anyway, thought i let you guys know my reasoning. :: --Scottind 01:02, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gameplay modifiers & scoring system[edit]

I really think these sections should be removed from the article, as Wikipedia is not a video game guide. What should be included in a good article is an overview of the game, its history, and its importance - Wikipedia is geared towards the average reader who is not interested in minutiae. This information is useful, and certainly has a place at RemyWiki, but I don't think it's good for this article. i agree with this change, though i dont think it should be completely eliminated, but reduced to 2-3 sentences just touching on its existance. The information should be moved to RemiWiki, and an external link added? In an additional note, i think the Cabinite Info section should be completely re-written to talk about the HARDWARE MECHANICS, to compliment with the Gameplay section to talk about GAMEPLAY MECHANICS. the Arcade History needs to be cleaned up to look less like bulleted points submitted by different users, and is generally very trivial for regular readers. Although there ARE some changes that are worth noting, i dont think it is notable to know when HS4 was made available, for example.--Scottind 08:58, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have copied all of the HS-setting and scoring information to RemyWiki, so feel free to do what you would like to it here. Also, I know that HS4 was introduced in CS 6th Style, but wasn't available in the arcades until RED. Prior, I'm not sure what was around- certainly up to HS3, but beyond that I don't know. IIDX: 14th Style Gold in the United States[edit]

I think this should be included on the grounds that an internet revolution is occuring in which players are petitioning arcades (most notably D&B) to buy IIDX: Gold, according to bemanistyle.com IIDX is on the verge of failure in the United States. Xatticus

a few hundred people, maybe a thousand, does not make an Internet revolution. The current goal of discussion is to bring the iidx article out of its "start-class" assessment. This includes removing detailed and statistical information to make the page more readable, for the average reader. bonus points[edit]

  • Border Bonus (Pass with exactly 80% without Hard modifier): 5,730 points
  • Bonus for a full combo with zero goods: 3,110 points
  • Bonus for a perfect score of 200,000: 4,620 points
  • Bonus for a full combo with zero goods AND finishing with 80%: 11,900 points

Is above information (from this article) correct? See this movie.[1] How did the player got 19,990 points? The above points can't be added up to 19,990. --Acepectif 19:15, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I recently got the 11900-point bonus on my own, see here: [2]. There is supposedly another bonus for all flashing-greats (a 200,000 score) and a 80% gauge, is that what he got? I can't see the video. The player got 200,000 points and 80% gauge on 5.1.1. Normal (Light in older versions) on Happy Sky (12th) version. The message appearing at the end of the video is "BORDER + PERFECT + 19990", and the total score is increased to 219990. It seems like that the player is FOX, who regularly appears at 2dx.co.kr (a Korean 2dx community.) Do you have a video which gets 200,000 points, either with or without border bonus? Oh, wow, that's quite a feat. I think that might be the only video out there that shows a 200K with a border bonus. I've only vaguely heard of it even being possible. I can't seem to find any videos of a game on Autoplay that shows the result screen, but if you have any version of IIDX, you can play a song in Free mode on Auto and it'll show you the bonus (4620 points). I'm not sure if you know this, but all of the bonuses listed are mutually exclusive- you can only get one of them per song, that's why you might be confused about them not adding up right. For example, a Great Bonus (+3110) cannot be combined with a Border Bonus (+5730)- instead, the game gives you a Great+Border bonus (+11900). So the All-Great + Border bonus (I think they're both called "Great" Bonus, but one might be flashing) is 19990 points, it looks like. Does this make sense? Cleanup...again...[edit]

This article is in desperate need of sourcing and cleanup to remove OR. I transwikied the gameplay modifier section to RemyWiki, a smaller wiki dedicated to IIDX. Some other information could possibly be moved there as well, such as the score system. Windows architecture[edit]

Is the Windows version used XP Embedded or is it simply a derived rendition from Konami? From 14th and on, a modified version of Taito_Type_X2 hardware is used for IIDX. It uses XPe, definitely not any consumer-level of XP(Home, Business, etc); it is identified on the machine's bootup screen. Scottind (talk) 06:36, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History Section cleanup / Article cleanup[edit]

Since there is a separate article that lists the history of Arcade and PS2 releases of IIDX, I'm petitioning to have the history removed since it is impossible to reference/cite, and is redundant. This also includes re-writing the latter section of the article, and moving the "Home Version" section in an effort to get it out of Start-Class. If needed, please transcribe it to the appropriate gaming Wiki; it shouldn't belong on Wikipedia. Generally, i'm trying to make the article adhere to the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. I'm the one who left the pseudo-list in place after creating the List of Beatmania games article, the reason for that was the summaries of each game which the List doesn't have. It's good stub material for the impending articles for individual games. I'm trying to make the point that the summaries for each of the games shouldn't belong in the article in the first place, though if someone did take the time to write it, then it shouldn't be simply deleted, but moved to the BEMANIwiki (if it isn't there already). I don't think the average wiki reader needs to know that "..8th Style made it even more challenging to obtain the Extra Stage." or needs to know ANYTHING about the VIP Room or CARDINAL GATE. Sentences like referencing DJ Troopers to Metal Gear Solid is a personal claim, for additional example. I don't think the information should be deleted or moved, as I said before there is factual (Albeit unreferenced) information unique to each release of the game, some of the info may be too specific but that's a copyedit issue not a notability issue. If you're bothered by it give me a few hours and I'll turn the contented material into stubs for each mix listed. A lot of the content here, factual or not, shouldn't be included because it's extraneous and un-notable to the series. If you want to make other articles, that is completely up to you. Serious cleanup and rework[edit]

Not much talk or bold edits have been done to this page for a while. So, anyone else interested in reworking this article. I've started by adding a few references and changed up the Gameplay section a bit. Merger proposal[edit]

I propose to merge Beatmania IIDX 11 IIDXRED, Beatmania IIDX 12: Happy Sky, Beatmania IIDX 13: Distorted, Beatmania IIDX 14: Gold, Beatmania IIDX 15: DJ Troopers into this series article. Neither of these seem to meet WP:GNG, they mostly copy the gameplay from Beatmania IIDX#Gameplay, and the rest is WP:GAMECRUFT with song lists and all. It does not appear that any merges were actually done as a result of that discussion. I do feel that more of the IIDX games could be added to this proposal, but I am worried that doing so piecemeal rather than first reviewing all the articles in detail could lead to a mess that makes things difficult for readers. Combine "Home Versions" and "Releases" under one header[edit]

Right now having a seperate "Releases" and "Home Versions" header is confusing, especially with the Releases section only including some versions and the Home Versions section not actually including a list of releases. The Japanese version of this article has a more extensive list of releases in a more standard easy to follow list. However I think listing all releases and small details about them is potentially overkill? Potentially cloning Dance Dance Revolution's releases sections formatting with the timeline on the right with a brief description would make this article easier to follow?
