Four Winds Field at Stanley Coveleski Stadium[edit]

No, it doesn't. See the RM below, and I've also reverted a contribution which anticipated the move [1], by the same IP that added this sentence. But the proposed official renaming is verifiable as you point out, so that information should stay. Adding your reference for it to the article would be a good idea too. OK. I didn't know if this fell into the category of Sports Authority Field at Mile High, for instance (field receives a name, name of facility as a whole remains unchanged). Interesting... and it's not clear to me from that article or the one at Mile High Stadium what people would understand the term Mile High Stadium to mean currently. The name Sports Authority Field at Mile High seems to assume that there's still something there called Mile High, but what is it? Is it just the current stadium, or a larger complex? Does the lacrosse team have any facilities of their own that are part of Mile High but not part of Sports Authority Field?

And I note that the DAB at Mile High (disambiguation) still currently [2] points to the redirects at Invesco Field at Mile High and INVESCO Field at Mile High (RTD), reflecting the previous sponsorship and highlighting one of the merits of the current policy of not automatically adopting sponsored names. Oppose. No evidence or likelihood that this is currently a better name for the article according to policy, see also Wikipedia:Official names. It appears that the new name may not even be fully approved as of yet, and it has received no usage except on sponsored pages (see the discussion linked to below) and in (few) news items (presumably all based on press releases) where it is described as proposed. See User talk:Andrewa#Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium RM for some discussion of this move, which I had closed. Note that I said there that I have no objection to the relisting, but suggested that move review was more likely to produce good results.

Particular issues:

The wisdom or otherwise of relisting. Relisting IMO is to seek further input on a proposal, but here it seems to be used instead to wait for the anticipated approval and/or wider adoption of the name.
Whether Wikipedia:Official names accurately reflects our current practice and consensus. Examples are given there of cases in which it may not.

Article scope[edit]

Is there a difference in scope between Stanley Coveleski Stadium and Four Winds Field?

The reason I ask is of course that, to an outsider, the names Four Winds Field at Stanley Coveleski Stadium and Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium seem to cover related topics but with different scopes, the former more specific than the latter, and we need to decide which of these topics is to be the focus of the article. But if Four Winds Field is the whole of Stanley Coveleski Stadium rather than just part of a larger complex, then that isn't a consideration.

Local politics (and particularly those concerning naming rights negoatiations) do often lead to such confusing names. The article needs to make this clear, and that's probably far more important then the article title is. Andrewa (talk) 17:48, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
