Demographics[edit]

Is there any official census data about languages spoken in the area? Readers would like to know which percent of the people speak Breton and which percent speak French. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.18.53.73 (talk) 13:27, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's pretty clear 100% speak French (up to a few recent immigrants, but Finistere is not traditionally a migratory region to its geographical location). The number of native Breton speakers is very low nowadays, and most are over 80 years old (my grandmother is one of them). These people have been speaking French for over 60 years now. I don't know how many people are bilingual. Breton schools have flourished in the past 20 years, and the kids training there are bilingual. Etymology[edit]

I've removed the part which says that the Cornish is cognate, because (a) the Lonely Planet link did not mention it, and (b) cognates for "Penn ar Bedd" would be (Welsh) "Penn y Bydd" and Cornish "Pedn ar Bys". Land's end in Cornish is "Pedn ar Wlas", the cognate of which in Breton would probably be "Penn ar Glad". -- 'bedd/bydd/bys' are like 'world' and 'glad/gwlad/gwlas' are like 'country, land'. - Francis Tyers · 08:41, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Antillas"?[edit]

In the "Geography" section the article points out that this is the westernmost point in France, excluding the overseas departments in the Americas "and the Antillas". Is "Antillas" a French spelling of "Antilles", or is this a typo? A quick Google search suggests that "Antillas" is Spanish, but not French. Molinari (talk) 16:18, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
