This is original text. Should it be here? RickK 01:49, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)

  • Preamble to Charter of the United Nations. Source text. RickK 01:53, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Merge into United Nations. Evil saltine 02:02, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)
      • Disagree. It's still source text, and shouldn't be in Wikipedia. RickK 02:08, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)
      • Delete. --Morven 05:53, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • I think it is probably equal in value to the Declaration of Independence (or at least should be), and thus I would tend to make a noted exception in this case. It should be noted, that it is an exception though... -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick 15:29, Sep 24, 2003 (UTC)
    • I have made it into a redirect to an existing article about the UN Charter which of course includes the preamble. The redirect should be kept. -- Popsracer 22:28, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Reverted to the original text, so people could examine what was going to be deleted. The article about the UN Charter of course does not include the text of the UN Charter, much less the preamble thereof. Argue for deletion of the Preamble or not, don't try to obfuscate the issue. I still maintain it is a special case which can be likened to the US Declaration of Independence, if you do not agree, please confront my view with your counterarguments. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick 21:37, 26 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Keep as a redirect. Wikipedia is not a collection of source material. The main United Nations article contains an external link to the full text of the charter, which is just as good as an internal link to the same thing. (Better, in fact, because the external version of the text is not permanently at risk from vandalism!) The same argument applies just as much to the United States Declaration of Independence article. It was agreed on the talk page of that article that the text should be removed, and indeed it was, back in February. The text was subsequently reinserted by an anonymous person, but I have just reverted that addition. -- Oliver P. 01:49, 28 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Hehe, why not remove the declaration of independence from the talkpage as well, if you want to be genuinely consistent, or maybe then add the preamble to the UN charter to the talk page of the UN charter >;-) Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick 20:42, 28 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Either rewrite it and explain the significance of the Preamble to the UN Charter or remove it, this is just a source text, there are plenty of places on the web that this text can be found there is no reason it should be here. Source texts add no content to Wikipedia unless they are analyzed contextually. Alex756 06:35, 3 Oct 2003 (UTC)
  • I added a link to a collection of essays discussing specifically the preamble of the UN charter. Aleph4 11:17, 6 Oct 2003 (UTC)
  • Add it to wikisource -- ie. http://ps.wikipedia.com or keep it here unitl wikisource is up.戴&#30505sv 06:50, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
