Roguelike addition[edit]

Added a section on roguelike infighting, and removed the "This applies only to Doom" from the top of the page. I don't think the term "infighting" is unique to Doom. If I've misunderstood the point of the page, feel free to revert the change.

Max Payne[edit]

Monster infighting is possible in Max Payne (not sure about Max Payne 2, though) to the extent that enemies will fire upon their allies if you are collinear with them, but they will not retaliate against each other. Still, I find this an interesting way to play the first chapter of Part II (you start off with just a baseball bat and are supposed to sneak into a room with weapons, but I'm not that good at stealth). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ubern00b (talkcontribs) 22:16, 22 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Not really infighting[edit]

I notice there are a lot of entries that refer to non-player character factions that dislike both the player and each other naturally (Halo's Covenent and Flood) or things like Dungeons & Dragons-style charm and confuse spells (Diablo II's Convert ability) instead of actual monster infighting. Actual monster infighting, in my opinion, must meet some conditions:

  1. The monsters in question must not have been targetting each other before the player engaged them.
  2. The infighting must have been caused by an accident of some sort, most likely by the player's design.
  3. The infighting must start as a chain of reprisals under their own volition.

I don't think that entries like Grand Theft Auto, Half-Life or Mercenaries really qualify, and will clean up the article in a few days if nobody objects. 67.180.206.34 10:23, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, took me a little while to update. I have to disagree here, I think monster infighting that was an intentionally designed to benefit NPC's is just as valid as the intentionally designed situations where PC's can initiate it. Please let me know your thoughts. Cyricx 15:43, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I waited a month for any feedback, then re-added the Guild Wars section because it is a unique example.Cyricx (talk) 13:23, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infighting[edit]

I remember when playing doom that if you shot a monster first, then had another monster shoot it, the monster would still continue to attack the player as his "target" (a variable?) was already set to the player, shoot until kill or be killed I assume.

Is this correct, because I can't remember entirely before I add it.-70.74.122.87 20:58, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
