Discovery details[edit]

When upgrading the article today I deleted the earlier statement "The crater was discovered in 1921 by an Aboriginal stockman", because the associated link (http://www.mtmagnet.wa.gov.au/aboutus/visitors/dalgaranga.html) was dead and I can't find any such details elsewhere on this or other web sites. The only published source I have that gives early discovery details (Nininger & Huss 1960) says it was first recognised in 1923 by W.E. Wellard of Dalgaranga Station. It's quite conceivable that the Aboriginal stockman pointed it out to Welland, but does anyone know of a source I can reference. -Zamphuor 13:31, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I replaced the section and text. I give the original source of the crater's discovery (Wellard, 1983) as well as cite a paper I have recently submitted on the discovery and history of the crater. Unfortunately, much of what was published was in error (e.g. Simpson, Nininger, etc), which is why this paper was written. Also, the station manager's name was Gerard E.P. Wellard. Many sources cite his initials incorrectly and give his name as "Willard", which was an error by Simpson (1938). Location[edit]

On Wikimapia someone has marked the location of the Dalgaranga meteorite crater by a polygon placed around a man made water tank around 670 metres east of the crater and calling it "Dalgaranga Impact Crater". Higher resolution images show this light coloured feature is a water tank. https://www.landgate.wa.gov.au/bmvf/app/mapviewer/# Would someone please remove the incorrectly located box. The Wikipedia position for the crater is correct, it is too small and hidden by bushes to be seen on the Wikimapia aerial photo.101.162.50.182 (talk) 01:48, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
