Photo caption[edit]

can someone put alternative text for the avalanches photo please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.42.13.83 (talk) 12:16, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Like what? Cnwb 23:26, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing he wanted names for the people in the photo... I'm unable to do this, if someone can, that'd be good. --Itamae 16:27, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

When I Met You[edit]

i downloaded an Avalanches album titled "When I Met You". it's not listed on their discography here. any ideas? --69.250.163.144 23:14, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is a bootleg release of their "Gimix" mix (which was only a promotional release), so is not part of their official discography. --James 03:32, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

What's wrong with the image? Andrewhime 18:45, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

900 samples[edit]

Where did they get this number? It seems impossible, considering how many 1/4 second samples of bells and snare drums and drops of water there are on the album.

Major Update[edit]

I have included many historical facts that were missing. I have referenced wherever possible (previously there were none.) I will continue to tweak as i spot errors... In the future I would like to 1) update the picture, 2)separate the discography 3)convert to wiki footnote format. Eygenraam 07:11, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:The Avalanches.jpg[edit]

Image:The Avalanches.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:23, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since I Left You section[edit]

The "Since I Left You" section is very confusing. Is it a time line leading to release of the album? It is formatted as a bunch of individual sentences, which may mean it was written/constructed piecemeal. Can someone who knows the story sort it out and make some thing more coherent? --GargoyleMT 02:59, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

letitsnow080808.com[edit]

There is a note in the section about the second album mentioning a rumour related to this domain name. While the name probably was registered when the comment was added (I remember doing whois on it a month back), it does not seem to be registered any more.

Googling for it just brings up pages which repeat the rumour almost word for word without anything more concrete. If we can't find a source, it should probably be removed. --James 13:25, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The domain name still isn't registered.
Recommend removal. --64.65.86.187 (talk) 15:26, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After the Goldrush[edit]

Is that a legit album? The tracklist is the same as on the 3rd mix they did for Breezeblock: http://www.pearsontowers.com/mixes/157-Avalanches-Third_Breezeblock_Mix

The only source is a website that sells the cd. If no one can confirm this it has to be deleted.62.235.218.22 (talk) 21:20, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds like you might be right here. There hasn't been any official word on this from The Avalanches yet, so it is a bit difficult to tell. Assuming it is a bootleg, it might be worth including a note about this release and "When I Left You" as fairly widely available fake releases. --James (talk) 23:38, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While it may or may not be a bootleg, I have seen it for sale in legitimate music stores in San Francisco, CA. ~Peter —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.61.140.250 (talk) 22:51, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The "When I Left You" bootleg was also available from legitimate retailers. Perhaps it would be worth mentioning "Notable Bootlegs" if only to stop people adding them as official album releases. --James (talk) 06:12, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2011 Improvements: more to follow[edit]

I've had a go at improving this article: I've provided some better refs for earlier years and their first album. However, the second album section contains far too much detail on its non-release: its virtually a blow by blow account of announcements that failed to deliver. I intend deleting much of this content, even though it contains references (mostly the band/label/fan sources), one week from today unless interested editor(s) can provide a rationale for keeping it.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:05, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Its been over a week (more like 3.5 months), so I've deleted much of the speculation/promises of the second album's imminent release. As of 19 December, there was still no definitive album title or exact release date.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:10, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Plunderphonics section removed[edit]

This section was removed without discussion. If major changes to the page, like the removal of a whole section are mooted, please discuss here and gain consensus before doing so. The Avalanches are without doubt are a prime example of Plunderphonics, and there are plenty of good RS in that section that support this. Deathlibrarian (talk) 07:12, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
