Cosmere Page[edit]

The Cosmere as a whole is deserving of its own page. Does anyone disagree? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.135.82.41 (talk) 00:50, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mention Kickstarter[edit]

The fact that sanderson has the most funded Kickstarter campaign ever is noteworthy and should be mentioned in the opening paragraph 104.153.228.224 (talk) 22:22, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Let's wait a day or two until it closes, and then we can work up a good sentence once everything has finalized. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 23:14, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I'll take a look, make straightforward copyedits as I go and jot notes below....Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 13:38, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Avoid 1-2 sentence choppy paras - merge or expand.
  • Brandon Sanderson was born on December 19, 1975, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was the eldest of four children. - these sentences a little on the short side, flow more naturally if, "The eldest of four children, Brandon Sanderson was born on December 19, 1975, in Lincoln, Nebraska."
  • Was Mistborn: The Final Empire a new book or one of the 12 written before?
  • Any more info on why Sanderson was chosen to finish WoT books? Possibly one of the most notable things to happen to him so any more would be good and germane to the article Sorry, missed the Mistborn explanation here. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 04:56, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, reception to his authorship of last 3 books as a whole
  • The After the Wheel of Time section is a bit "and then, and then.." - maybe adding some bits on things that were well-received etc.?

Work on the above items[edit]

Collecting my comments and notes on working on the above-mentioned items:

  • There's only one two-sentence paragraph now (the one about his marriage and kids), and I think it works fine as it is. The other one has been expanded to be more sentences.
  • Fixed the first two sentences in the bio section by merging them.
  • Don't know about Mistborn being one of the 12 previously-written novels or not. I don't think so, but I don't have any refs for that.
  • I'll see if I can find more details on why Sanderson was chosen for WoT.
  • I'll work on adding more reception for his more recent works.
  • Yeah, I'm not a fan with how the bio section has been divided up, but I'm not sure how to change that. I'll think on it.
  • I think you could get rid of the "Life and Career" section and make the sub-sections tier 2 section headers. You could organize the "works section" (which is called Wheel of Time right now) into sections by date, or by genre of publications, or by audience. I like to divide his works into epic fantasy, YA, and "misc" ("other work") in my head. My unsolicited opinion, heh. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 18:59, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'll add more as Casliber works on things. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:57, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not finding anything about whether Mistborn is one of the 12 novels or not. I believe I remember something from a while back where he said he had an early version of a novel that was completely redone (so it wasn't really the same novel) into one of his published novels, but I can't find it. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:41, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay - am presuming then that pretty much anything online of significance is in article. In which case...

1. Well written?:

Prose quality:
Manual of Style compliance:

2. Factually accurate and verifiable?:

References to sources:
Citations to reliable sources, where required:
No original research:

3. Broad in coverage?:

Major aspects:
Focused:

4. Reflects a neutral point of view?:

Fair representation without bias:

5. Reasonably stable?

No edit wars, etc. (Vandalism does not count against GA):

6. Illustrated by images, when possible and appropriate?:

Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have fair use rationales:
Images are provided where possible and appropriate, with suitable captions:

Overall:

Pass or Fail: looks pretty good overall - if we don't have sources then what we got is what we got. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 02:08, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

analysis of Mormon themes in the Stormlight Archive[edit]

There's an article on how elements of Mormon thought are evident in Sanderson's magic system in the Summer 2021 SFRA review. Would it be more appropriate to summarize it here or on The Stormlight Archive? Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 18:53, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is this a WP:RS? I searched for SFRA in the RSN archives and didn't find anything. Leijurv (talk) 05:19, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's a reliable source. There is an editorial team that accepts or rejects articles. From their e-mail addresses, it looks like three have affiliations with educational institutions. I don't know if the articles are peer-reviewed. From what I've read of the special issue on Mormonism, the quality could be a little uneven. Accomplishments[edit]

One of Brandon Sanderson’s greatest things he has ever done is read a 9,234 page book in 18 seconds. 67.199.174.206 (talk) 03:02, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reliable source for this? Tails Wx 03:06, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Book does not seem to have independent notability 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:25, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your interest, please review the pages of all the previous books in this series. is it your opinion that they all also be merged into the Brandon Sanderson page? would that improve the Brandon Sanderson page? if not, please help me by learning about the subject material and provide to the individual book's page information that would make that page better. LearningRobot (talk) 05:37, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose merge per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. Wikipedia:Notability (books)#Criteria says:

A book is presumed notable if it verifiably meets, through reliable sources, at least one of the following criteria:

    1. The book has been the subject of two or more non-trivial published works appearing in sources that are independent of the book itself. This can include published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, other books, television documentaries, bestseller lists, and reviews. This excludes media re-prints of press releases, flap copy, or other publications where the author, its publisher, agent, or other self-interested parties advertise or speak about the book.

I especially enjoyed it when the talents were back. This book was a quick read with a very narrow focus to face Biblioden. ... Overall, this has been a great series for the target audience and I have enjoyed the quirky Smedry talents and enjoyed the final way the question of who inherits the talents is resolved"

The review from Mark Buxton is a staff review. The review notes: "The Final Verdict: Fall of the Librarians. I enjoy humor that makes me think, so this book’s absurd wit is up my alley. Starting the series from the beginning will be a huge help, as the adventure moves along in a familiar style. The characters and story are highly delightful, and I highly recommend you give the book, and series, a shot."

The article notes: "Sanderson also collaborated with Patterson on another new book scheduled for release this year: Bastille vs. The Evil Librarians. Due from Tor’s Starscape imprint on September 20, the sixth hardcover installment of Sanderson’s Alcatraz vs. The Evil Librarians series features illustrations by Hayley Lazo. The art for the cover, first revealed here, was created by Justin Gerard. ... In the latest caper, Alcatraz is distressed after failing to save his father from Bilbioden, the Evil Librarian’s ancient founder, and the boy’s friend Bastille must step in to foil the villain’s plot to dominate the world."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow Bastille vs. the Evil Librarians to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".
