Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Hi Tomo - you wrote: I am in a process of building Category:Combinatorial principles and you just deleted it. Is there any reason why it should be destroyed? Tomo 00:43, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Sorry if I trod on your toes - but I haven't deleted what you wrote. What you were building was an article - and it's still there, as Combinatorial principles. Categories are simply there to list articles that are related, not to write at length about what the categories are for. As for the category itself, it's still there, but empty. It would only ever have had eight articles, if Combinatorial principles is to be believed, which isn't really sufficient for a separate category, especially since its parent category only has about 80 articles. If you wish to repopulate it with articles, feel free - it just didn't seem a viable category to me (also feel free to argue its case at Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion#Category:Combinatorial_principles. Oh, and categories are never stubs - the correct template to use for an underpopulated category is Template:popcat! Grutness|hello? 04:57, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. I wish I knew about the article Combinatorial principles. My intention was not to write an article but just to give temporary information to all who would want to help me in my little project... someone should make this template (popcat) more popular in various help pages...

You're probably right about that. Still, there's a basic guideline on Wikipedia is that if something is worth a category, it should at the very least have an article about it, so having the article was a good idea anyway. (Oh, and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope this hasn't put you off what we do here! :) Grutness|hello? 07:05, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Question on Category Combinatorial principles II[edit]

Hi again - you wrote: Since I am new, I do not know even know if this is the right way to communicate. What I would like to have is two types of links, say bla bla and See also:bla bla that would automatically create a cross reference in both articles.

I don't know of any such tools, unfortunately - the best way is simply do it by hand, I think - add a "See also" heading at the bottom of the article, and put any cross-referencing links there. Either than that (probably the better way), try to weave your cross-references into the text simply by mentioning the connection between the two - e.g., if you've got two related fields of study called Fnudd and Sponn, then in the Fnudd article asss a sentence somewhere saying ""Fnudd shares similarities with the field of Sponn, which also deals with blah blah blah", and then do something similar in the other article.
There may be some automatic cross-referencing system... it might be worth asking at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Hope that helps! Grutness|hello? 13:43, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Edit summary[edit]

Dear Tomo. Thank you for your contributions to math articles. I have just one request. Would you mind adding an edit summary when you make changes? That is very helpful for people having a certain page on their watchlist. Enjoy! Oleg Alexandrov 01:22, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

WikiProject Mathematics Participants list[edit]

Hi Tomo, welcome to Wikipedia, and the Mathematics Project. Thanks for adding your name to the table of Participants on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics, but as of now that table is only a prototype for a new format for the list. The real list is at: Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Participants, you should add your name there, as well as some comments by way of introduction. If and when the new format is adopted your entry will be transfered with everyone else's to the new tabular format. Paul August 20:05, Mar 13, 2005 (UTC)

OK. I will do that when I become more familiar with the system. Tomo 23:28, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your contribtutions to this article. Just one remark. On Wikipedia, all variables are supposed to be italic, so you write d instead of simply d for example. Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov 08:46, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! Please feel free to improve any of my contributions. I am a little older so it may take a while before I get used to the style of Wikipedia. Tomo 18:22, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

It takes all of us a while to get used to doing things in a certain style. I would say the most important thing is to put all articles you edit on your watchlist, and watch them periodically to see who changed what. In this way you can learn some things and also keep track of bad contributions (which unfortunately do happen). Good luck! Oleg Alexandrov 19:20, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Image deletion warning The image Image:Graph k6.png has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. If you feel that this image should not be deleted, please go there to voice your opinion.

Image copyright problem with Image:K33 torus.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:K33 torus.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Longhair 11:19, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging for Image:Black_box.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Black_box.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Image Tagging Image:Desargues.png[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Desargues.png. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Fair use rationale for Image:AWT1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:AWT1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 13:08, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Articles need improvement[edit]

Hi! The articles that you have recently created needs to be improved: Milan Randić, Jure Zupan, Dražen Vikić-Topić and International Academy of Mathematical Chemistry. Some articles are written like a resume, dont contain any sources/references or the intro is not developed enough to comply with Wikipedia's guidelines. Therefore, I have tagged them. The article Ars Mathematica Contemporanea has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:
Ars Mathematica Contemporaneanews, books, scholar
Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Tomo! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 1,643 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on MATH/CHEM/COMP requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.), but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. JMHamo (talk) 23:11, 13 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of MATH/CHEM/COMP[edit]

Hello Tomo,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged MATH/CHEM/COMP for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

The article Wilfried Imrich has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Levi graph[edit]

Do you know anything about the Levi graph of the Grünbaum–Rigby configuration? It must be 4-regular, bipartite, and vertex-transitive, with 42 vertices. It's not the 4-regular 42-vertex graph P14 in your paper "Vertex-transitive graphs and their arc-types" with Conder and Žitnik because that graph has triangles and quadrilaterals, neither of which can happen in the Levi graph of a configuration. I think (based on something in Coxeter's paper "My graphs") that it may instead be the bipartite double cover of the line graph of the Heawood graph. Does this graph appear anywhere in the published literature? —David Eppstein (talk) 18:42, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in the Fano plane, define a flag F (point and an incident line) and an unordered pair of points P to be incident when P is disjoint from the line of F and non-collinear with the point of F. This defines a structure with 21 flags, 21 pairs, and 4 incident pairs per object. Is it the same structure? —David Eppstein (talk) 19:10, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The fact was ... that although the Grünbaum–Rigby configuration (pictured) has been studied since 1879, it was not depicted in its realization as three overlaid heptagrams until 1990? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Grünbaum–Rigby configuration. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Grünbaum–Rigby configuration), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Danzer's configuration moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Danzer's configuration, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
