Sentence[edit]

"Iqbal was sentenced to be strangled 100 times, then cut into 100 pieces and put in acid."

That is inaccurate. The judge on the case said that he'd like to enforce such a sentence but could only sentence Iqbal to death by hanging.

Not according to the sources stated - BBC News and the Guardian {90.194.52.140 (talk) 00:53, 3 September 2010 (UTC)) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.194.52.140 (talk) 00:44, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

I found some sources for this before, but must not have included them. Perhaps because they were dubious. Any court records, contemporary news clips, lists of victims would be useful. Rich Farmbrough 22:11, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There was a detailed story on Javed Iqbal in the Herald, though I have no idea when it was published... gimme a couple of days... will try and look it up. Hulleye 09:49, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a source for the sentence "He wished to point out the terrible lives that street children live."? If not, I'd like to delete it, but I don't want to be too hasty.24.131.12.228 02:48, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note about page move[edit]

The history for this page has been left behind at Javed Iqbal. Rich Farmbrough 16:49 14 June 2006 (GMT).

www.dawn.com[edit]

"the murderer reached the target he had set himself, and wrote to the police and a newspaper. The police officer who first received the letter apparently consigned it to the rubbish bin, and news reporters reached the scene of the crime before the cops did" Rich Farmbrough 16:57 14 June 2006 (GMT).

Time[edit]

Crimelibrary says "Time Magazine in a December 27, 1999 interview" if anyone has access? Rich Farmbrough 17:27 14 June 2006 (GMT).

Grammer[edit]

Grammatically the article is in very bad shape, can anybody help in cleaning it up. Fayselaslam (talk) 08:06, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Let's start with comma splices and the word "grammar" ;)

Editing[edit]

I just edited the article to make it more normalized.Famir (talk) 16:18, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Source for birth date[edit]

What is the source for the birth date? It seems unusual that born and died on October 8 - If such a coincidence were true, it would seem some of the news sources would have mentioned that he died on his birthday. Thisdaytrivia (talk) 04:29, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If no source can be found for that birth date, then I would assume some editor simply made it up the lazy way, by re-using his death date. If you look at the article's History page, it could tell you which editor added that bit to WP.--Quisqualis (talk) 03:03, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A user who was blocked for misbehavior apparently inserted that date. I'm removing it.

The birth date of October 8 has come back, but without a source. Probably should be removed Thisdaytrivia (talk) 03:38, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Javed Iqbal Umayr" or "Javed Iqbal Mughal"?[edit]

His full name was "Javed Iqbal Mughal" (4,910 Google hits, including Dawn Pakistan and Gulf News; in Urdu "جاوید اقبال مغل" has 2100 hits including Jang Pakistan). "Javed Iqbal Umayr" only has 688 hits, most likely inspired by the Wikipedia article. He was the fourth son of of Mohammad Ali Mughal. Even the citation used has "Javed Iqbal Mughal". What is the source of "Javed Iqbal Umayr"? Malaiya (talk) 05:48, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Accomplices and alternate birthdate.[edit]

Iqbal did not commit his crimes alone, but I can't seem to find any sources that actually name his accomplices (I also found a photo of him with his accomplices, but I don't want to risk adding another fair use image to this article). In addition to that, a few sources seem to name his DOB as an unspecified date in 1961, as opposed to the article listing October 8, 1956. There's not a whole lot of English-language articles on Iqbal and his crimes, and I don't want to recklessly update the article. If anyone could help me out with this, I'd be grateful.
