I changed the reference to Benjamin Britten setting the Lyke Wake dirge to music. It already had a tune before Britten was born. Paul Tracy

Above change reverted: I see why, but the Lyke Wake dirge has several tunes and I feel the article implies that Britten was the first to provide one; this ain't the case. Paul Tracy

Slightly rewritten - any better now?? 82.35.17.203 20:29, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)

New club[edit]

So... can anyone explain what's going on that is controversial? Thanks.

It's a dead link now and sadly the particular page does not seem to be archived. However its parent page is, and offers this glimpse:
"Acrimony over establishment of new Lyke Wake Walk group
A BREAKAWAY club set up to continue the tradition of the Lyke Wake Walk has come under fire from original club members. more..."
- but that's all you get. There are still two sites and the site which seems to belong to the original company still has legal threats on it. More than that, I don't know. Wish I could help more, and sorry it's taken so many years for you to get a reply! :) DBaK (talk) 16:41, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Difference of opinion[edit]

Hello Esemgee

I have undone your edits of the Lyke Wake Walk page. Sorry but the edits you have made: (a) are not compatible with the terminology of the Lyke Wake Clubs and as used by those who undertake the Walk (as given in the many references I have added to the article); (b) have introduced inconsistencies into the article (c) the use of capitals in the edits that I have done have been carefully chosen to distinguish doing the walk under the 'challenge' conditions that qualify for membership of the Club and doing the Walk outside the challenge conditions and (d) have removed carefully considered emphasis made in the edits I made. I have been doing this walk for over 40 years and I am reasonably familiar with the route and the culture of the Walk & its Clubs & have tried to communicate these in the edits I have made. I have undone your edits which are not compatible with an encyclopedia article. This is NOT the "Club" but is written for a wider audience. The article was badly written and capital letters were not used properly. It is irrelevant how many times you have completed the walk, what matters is that it is written in a style compatible with an encyclopedia. You are not the only editor who carefully considers his edits. Copied from my talk page. Esemgee (talk) 07:37, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect height for Orterley Lane end? (where is it?)[edit]

The article refers to "Point 945 (Orterley Lane end)". But according to google maps, the maximum reached on the Stokesley-Helmsley road is 860 feet (262 m) (at Clay Bank). So is this an error?
And where is Orterley Lane? I haven't been able to identify where it is, to check. --David Edgar (talk) 10:30, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

This article would be greatly improved by the addition of a map. but I am not really in a position to provide one from Australia. --Bduke (talk) 23:00, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
