Co-Credits for Tunnel of Love[edit]

Rogers and Hammerstein wrote the concert intro Carousel Waltz. They did not contribute to Tunnel of Love. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.249.92.56 (talkcontribs) 22 November 2011‎

They didn't contribute directly, in the sense of working with Knopfler on the song, but the track "Tunnel of Love" does include a piece of music they created, and they are given credit for it in the track listing. — Paul A (talk) 02:04, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Date of recording[edit]

The Dire Straits page said this album was recorded over two nights in June 1983. Sources? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zeimusu (talkcontribs) 22 August 2010

Liner notes of the '88 greatest hits release. It's common knowledge anyway. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.97.70.30 (talk) 01:24, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

== Cassette Versions ==

Hello, there's at least 3 different cassete (MC) versions of that double album available: 1.) The version that's anounced on the back of the original slipcase of the original CD release (Germany): "available on ... double stereo chrome cassette..." As I do not own that version, I don't know the track listing.

2.) A double stereo (normal tape) cassette released by FONOGRAM, S.A., Madrid (Spain) which I own. It is packaged in a slipcase similar to that of the CD release. The catalog number is: 818 243-4 (which is the same as the CD except for the last digit) The Tracks are: (side 1) Once upon a time in the west Expresso love Privat investigations (side 2) Sultans of swing Romeo and Juliet Love over gold (sic! it is there!) (side 3) Two young lovers Tunnel of love (side 4) Telegraphp road Solid rock Going home

3.) A singel cassette version released by Phonogram, made in Holland, which own. The catolog number is 818 582-4. The cassette label and the J-Card state "chrome tape", but the tape is actually normal tape. The tracks are: (side 1) Once upon a time in the west Expresso love (there is a fade out/fade in between "Expresso love" and "sultans of swing".) Privat investigations Sultans of swing Romeo and Juliet

(side 2) Two young lovers Tunnel of love (there is a fade out/fade in between "Tunnel of love" and "Telegraphp road".) Telegraphp road Solid rock Going home

== Remastering Dates ==

The Dire Straits CD catalog was remastered in 1996 for Mercury (former Phonogram) in Europe, by Bob Ludwig, and issued under the same catalog numbers. So, Alchmey was remastered in 1996. The packaging changed on that ocassion: The slipcase was no longer used, and the two CDs were packaged in a standard double jewel case.

Need better reviews[edit]

The only review on here contains the comments "There is an interesting contrast...between the music, much of which is slow and moody..." and that the crowd claps and sings along "as though each song were an up-tempo rocker". That's not Alchemy - six of the ten songs are definitely upbeat, most of those wildly so. (As an aside, all are clearly faster than their album versions, but that's not what's being reviewed.) I'll look around for more reviews (please not just Christgau yet again) but I'd say that review is very far from representative of the album and misleading as to the content.ToaneeM (talk) 16:23, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree with ToaneeM. "the music, much of which is slow and moody"... I sincerely believe the reviewer hasn't actually listened to the album. 193.40.25.254 (talk) 09:49, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

End of the show....[edit]

Does anyone know why the staff started to dismantle the stage whilst the band was still playing the last tunes of "Theme from Local Hero"? 2A01:41E1:44F1:1200:D536:F711:79D4:51F2 (talk) 23:24, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
